My name is Fran Gavin.
I am a disabled vet of the U.S. Army, I have learned to deal with my pain by teaching myself art and music. Throughout my life I have experienced a plethora of things, from becoming a mechanic to becoming a father I have been on countless journeys. After my honorable discharge I attained a Bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in Political Science, and a Master's degree in Social Studies Secondary Education from the same institution. I went on to teach history in the Syracuse, NY city school district, and even ran for congress in the infamous 2000 election.
As a child I never excelled in the arts, I always set my sights on sports. Sports, for me, meant shooting hoops behind my house to running as the captain of my cross country team in high school. I had never dreamed of seeing my own paintings grace the Arise calendars, tour New York State, and then the country.
Finally affording myself the ability to play the songs I'd listened to throughout my life, as well as write my own originals, has given me a great joy. The excitement, after the hard work of course, of perfecting a new piece is indescribable. I currently have three completed albums with guitar and vocals, I am looking towards some studio time and recording with a band to finalize these tracks into something I can truly be proud of and present to the world.
